The Principal Deputy Director of CDC, Dr. Anne Schuchat, told us that the range at which this mosquito is spreading this virus is far larger than what was initially thought and the disease is causing
more damages than what medical experts initially suggested. Dr. Schuchat said in his statement with our reporter that they are learning much about it everyday and most of what we are learning is not reassuring.
Studies have also shown that this mosquito-borne zika virus that have been linked to microcephaly in some area is a neurological defects that occur when the foetus is exposed to the virus.
Later at the White house, CDC and NIH made a joint statement about the range of current research efforts and the funding neccessary to conduct broader research on the virus.
Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Health, Dr Anthony Fauci gave reports of update on the current fight against the zika outbreak. Dr Fauci said Health Officials were still without enough funds to proportionally respond to potential outbreaks, he then implored the congress to release funds to fight the disease.
Dr Schuchat told our reporter that the congress is trying to protect every pregnancy it can right now.
